Pledge to follow Mother Teresa’s footsteps, her compassion and service to the poorest of poor

_ant2650A note on sharaddhanjali organized in Ahmedabad to Mother Teresa, canonized as saint at Vatican by Pope Francis:

On September 5, 2016 marked the 19th death anniversary of Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata who died in 1997. She was canonized as Saint on September 4, 2016 at Vatican by Pope Francis. The day is observed as a feast day of Mother Teresa by the Catholic Church all over the world and as the “International Day of Charity” by the United Nations.

_ant2720In Ahmedabad, several citizens, about 700-800, from all walks of life and religions gathered this morning at the Mother Teresa Chowk to pay homage to the Saint of the poorest of the poor. Among others, the Mayor of Ahmedabad, Gautam Shah, paid sharadhanjali to Saint Mother Teresa at Mother Teresa Chowk, Bhadra.

Led by different schools from the city (St. Xavier’s School, Vatva; St. Joseph’s School, Gomtipur; St. Xavier’s School, Hansol; St. Xavier’s School, Mirzapur; St. Anne’s School, Sabarmati and Mount Carmel School, Navrangpura), St. Xavier’s Social Service Society and the inmates of Shanti Nilaya and the children of Shishu Bhavan (both Mother Teresa Ashrams), a wonderful programme was organised which included prayer songs and a prayer dance.

_ant2423At the shraddhanjali, Sr. Clare Agnes, a Missionary of Charity shared a bit of the life of Mother Teresa and her joy to follow in Mother’s footsteps, very specially in her compassion and service to the poorest of the poor. She also narrated few thoughts of Saint Mother Teresa and her call for others to join in this mission of peace.

Fr. Francis Parmar, Provincial of Gujarat Jesuits, called upon all to emulate the life and works of Mother Teresa specially in reaching out to the least of our brothers and sisters. Br. Sandesh Gonsalves sj, Director of Prashant then thanked all, very particularly the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the Mayor of Ahmedabad, Gautam Shah.
