Janvikas, an Ahmedabad-based human rights organization, in collaboration with SAATH, has sought Strategic Preparedness and Ration Kit Support for Communities of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Statement:
Amidst the pandemic of Coronavirus, there is lack of awareness we actual formation and proper guidance for precautionary and preventive measures in under privileged communities and slums of Ahmedabad.
With authorities hunting down by institutions nationally, sputtering economy hurts the most vulnerable and leaves the daily wage earners with no livelihood. Janvikas works in 11 district of Gujarat with its various projects, incubated 18 community based organisations and developed 425 community leaders having 3653 lifetime members in people’s organisations.
Janvikas’ goal is to contribute to building and strengthening just, democratic and secular society and to bring about concrete and sustainable changes in the lives of the poor marginalized and disadvantaged communities. These communities mainly comprise of informal sector whose earning is based on daily work received.
With Janta curfew and the labour nakas in the city at which workers gather in the morning to seek employment being discouraged and having failed to obtain work for three consecutive days, panic and stress is increasing within these communities. In order to help them overcome the current challenges of procuring monthly Ration and hygiene needs, Janvikas in collaboration with SAATH proposes to procure and distribute Ration Kits and Hygiene Kits (oil, grains, pulses, sugar, salt and basic supplies, masks and sanitizers) to families residing in the slum areas.
To meet these immediate need of ration and basic suppliers, each kit costs Rs 2,400 or $30 and will cater to the need of one household. These kits will have the following items:
